Skull Appreciation Day!

Woohoo! The day is finally here, and the growing number of us who love to use skulls in our creations are celebrating loud and proud! The wonderful Skull-A-Day have decided to try and make June 4th Skull Appreciation Day, and in honour of this, the Smeared and Smudged Team are hosting a skull-centric blog hop. As well as lots of projects featuring skulls, there are, of course, prizes, oodles of prizes, including rubber stamps, digi stamps, grab bags, jewellery, gift vouchers, keychains and more! Head on over to THE START OF THE HOP to find out details, including the full list of participants and what you need to do to win. If you've come here from the fabulous project at Creepy Glowbugg's blog, then you're on the right track, kudos to you!

My piece uses Smittie Grumpie from Smeared Ink, and the frame is one I made using Flying Skull, also by Smeared Ink. The main skull image is one that I'll be releasing in a paper pack soon, I love this image but I keep changing my mind about what to do with it . . . Have it really large in the centre of the paper (which looks fabulous but isn't entirely suitable for card makers) or make it small and have it repeating (which is probably better for cards but then you don't get to see all the glorious details). So I'd like your help - what would you do? Once the hop is finished, I'll use Random.org to pick a comment to win the set I design (remember it isn't made yet) and I'll ALSO give away the set to one person who gives me their opinion on what to do with the image, and/or what to call the set, and/or what colours to use. It's almost like designing yor own papers, but I'll do all the work for you :P

Your next stop on the hop is Andrea, who will have something very much out-of the-norm to show you, she's a creative genius, that one!

Thanks for hopping, and remember to appreciate your skull today; without it, your face wouldn't work :P

That is one gorgeous skully, hon! How about you do a pack using it in various forms? Like a biggie in the center, a whole collage of them AND one in a bottom corner for card makers. Now wouldn't that be FAB? LOVE this! xxD

Great card Susan. I love that skull, I can't wait for the paper pack to come out. I would suggest you have one large skull in the corner and have smaller ones repeat over the rest of the page, how does that sound?

Fabulous projects!! I ADORE the skull image and would keep it large on the paper. It is too beautiful to risk losing the detail. I would name tge set "Beauty in Death"

Love your project, the border is great, and the skull is awesome, I love it, the color is fabulous. Ok not that I am asking for much buutttt, I would love to see this stay in the colors you used and also in a punky pink and since I'm asking can you make it a large one and repeating patterns would like to use them together, not that I'm asking for much, huh, your stuff is always great

Love this combination of images! So clever! The skull you created is really wonderful...and I think it's important for the details to show, so I would keep it large...maybe off in the corner as you have shown it here. You don't want to lose all of those pretty petals in a smaller version. ab job Susan!

Really love your skull. The one on your project. Not the one in your head. Well maybe the one in your head - you did create this fabulous work. I would use this how ever you choose to produce it on paper.

Love this! That flowery skull is effing awesome! You may have to do two papers with it... one large skull maybe in the lower right corner, and one paper with med/small skulls repeating? Or how about as a digi w/ a transparent background for us to color like we want? Can't wait until you finish them!!!

Great work as always, my Minion!

This is a great creation! I am so in awe of how you can create things digitally. I am super challenged!

Ok- so what to do. First, it needs to be a digi stamp in black and white so I can do something with it too!
Second, I think a bit of both on the paper. Put a larger on on a corner, like you did here, and then small ones randomly. OR a large on on a corner/edge and swirls over the rest.

I like ur project! Your creativity is superb. I suggest making it smaller in grouping of 3 perhaps for a corner.

Love your project. The skull is fantastic. I'd either do it quite large but off set in to the bottom right hand corner or about 3 in a row about a 3rd of the way up from the bottom, and I'd love to see it in a bright pink.

Fabulous card and image! Hmmmm....there's so much you can do with this! I envision a bandana looking pattern with a big skull in the middle and skulls of various sizes working their way towards the corners. With this being digi paper, the user can choose which portion of the paper they want...giving several options regarding skull sizes. There can be other papers too...one with just a border of skulls, one with a flourish and skull in the corner...the options are endless! As far as color goes...anything would look good. I'd love to see some purple or violets as that is my current favorite color scheme, but black and white or black and red would be stunning as well! Title: "Love's Sweet Passing"

absolutely wonderful! the detail in the skull is fantastic.
I would do a page with a larger version at the top and then smaller versions across the bottom.. makes everyone happy and the details don't get lost! Would be great to see it in grey or burgundy.. although not sure. definitely grey. could call it Flowers on my mind... or Rosy's Skull... I dunno. Just ideas.
Thanks so much for posting.

Fabulous hun! I think the skull would look ace as a biggie, by itself as well as a backing paper. You could have it in the centre of a rosey frame too. . .

Hi Susan, LOVE what you did, I have no digital experience what-so-ever! :( but I LOVE what you are doing here!
as for suggestions...here's what I would do if I could.
First i am assuming most people could only print out 8" X 11" or 8" x 8"... that being said, I would make 3 different designs, and then make them in 3-4 colors each.

1.)in the 8" X 8" mode, I would center it, perhaps making a tiny frame of minis around it or around the edge of the paper

2.) again 8x8, I would make 4 on each section of 4 x 4 squares on that same paper

3.) in 8" X 11" mode, I would tile it all over

so that is 3, and if you offer in in 4 colors, that would be a set of 12. (my color suggestions would be grey on black, blue on grey, black on purple, red on black)

My title for it would be:

"A Rose is a Rose, even in Death"

What do you think?

BTW, I am thinking your vision is improving since our last conversation, as your work is just wonderful!!

inky hugs,
Susan

love your work! the project is awesome!

for the paper, what about doing a set with the image, like one paper with a big skull, one paper with a bunch of small one, maybe one with the roses, one with a color that goes with them? good luck :)

that is so cool! and such a creative way to use these images! :)

Wonderful card, the images work so well with together. I really like how you created the frame from the little windged skull.
Hmm...for your paper I'd do both! The larger skull will be a great focal image but if you put little skulls you could use it more as background images... can't wait to see what you decide :)

Well, I love your card! Especially the little Belly Full of Love guy ... he's cute *and* creepy! Yay!

Perhaps your new set, undesigned as yet, but announced on Skull Appreciation Day should be: It's all in your head (You get it? Skulls ... all in your head?). Holy cow I make me chuckle. :)

Susan you are a digital genius... i am in awe of your talent... you are my digi hero... but you know that already.
I'd like a selection of papers, in various colours... deep purples, reds and mossy greens using this fantastic skull please, both small designs and larger ones... and a digi stamp...if i think of anything else i'll let you know! I love this piece... you truely are an artist.
much love lynx

first off I didn't even notice the winged skulls that is such a great idea! and second I love this all together!!! I think the green color you chose is great! I think it would also look great in dark read...or black-ish grey....and I agree with the bigger one you see more of the fab details...even then card makers could always size it down...or duplicate it...or you could do both in a set! and maybe call the set dead roses or poisoned roses (looks like the poison skull and cross bones symbol) I donno that was just my first thought..I'm sure whatever you choose is great, and I can't wait to see it!

Wow I really love this project 7 the paper you made with the digi freebie. That big skull is gorgeous & I'd keep it large on the paper, perhaps color the roses a blood red, muted somewhat & the rest in grayscale "stopping to smell the roses" You could try it smaller with lots of them in all directions in black with a red or pink background, maybe even add a ribbon border to both. Thanks for hopping with us & for sponsoring us!
